Sustainability
At IJswijnen we believe that with many small steps, we can make our business operations increasingly sustainable. That if we all try a little harder each time, we will also achieve a little more each time. We realize that the impact of the IJswijnen team on the bigger picture is extremely limited, but nevertheless we are happy to commit ourselves to a better world.
What we believe in:
1. Reuse packaging material
In order to use packaging materials more economically, IJswijnen.nl has introduced the four R's:
a) Reduce
Preventing waste of materials and using them efficiently. Everything is used as much as possible, so that the waste that IJswijnen.nl produces remains minimal.
b) Re-use
IJswijnen.nl reuses packaging materials. The bags in which packaging materials are delivered and (wine) boxes are reused as filling material in the shipping boxes of all orders.
c) Recycle
Where Re-use is not possible by us, we separate our waste. We do this with paper, cardboard, glass and, where applicable, organic waste.
d) Renew
IJswijnen.nl is constantly trying to use new materials with a lower environmental impact. For example, IJswijnen.nl switched to brown instead of white shipping boxes at the end of 2022 and we hardly order any interiors for the shipping boxes anymore. Old cardboard boxes are cut into strips and the bottles are rolled in that cardboard. Bottles are sent safely in this way, but with a much smaller footprint.
2) Cooling with night cold
IJswijnen.nl uses night cooling. The wines are cooled in a controlled manner with a ventilation system using the cool outside air. This saves us CO2 and we only need to actively turn on the cooling in the summer period.
3) We encourage the sale of wines produced close to home.
We sell wines from many different countries. For example, wine that we import from Germany produces less CO2 emissions than wine from Canada. We also make potential customers aware of this and therefore stimulate the sale of wine that is made close to home.
4) We use a cargo bike as much as possible to transport the packages.
Parcels are brought to a PostNL location as much as possible by cargo bike during the year. This saves CO2 and provides us with a pleasant physical movement. If we have a lot of parcels, PostNL comes to us directly.
5) Long-term support for a good cause - Stichting Satu Persatu
We support the Satu Persatu Foundation. We believe it is important that we do something that really has a positive impact. The Satu PerSatu Foundation is committed to better living conditions and future opportunities for underprivileged children and their parents in Malang, Indonesia (island of Java).
By means of concrete educational facilities where specific vocational training is given, they contribute to better living conditions. The foundation is also involved in Skill-training, Microfinance and Scholarship support.
Through these projects, Satu PerSatu helps people take the first step to find a job, start a small business and send their children back to school. For more information, visit http://www.satupersatu.org
